Out of ideas and no where to go. How are you going to conjure up ideas for this brief?
You can’t even think of what to cook for dinner! Cripes.

Take a look around you..has your bench been hacked, spray glued, abused and buckling under the weight of previous work and research?
What about your computer?
What about your computer?
Is the desktop buried in numerous files and wheezing from not being turned off since 1999?
Time to cure your cramped brain.
Rid your desktop of unnecessary files and turn your computer off. Get a bin and cloth.
Clear your work area of all old briefs and scum.
Every new brief should start on a clean slate, this should include your work area.

Now it’s time to suck inspiration from your surroundings.
Grab a camera or notebook, and begin your journey to find ideas.
Look at things you wouldn’t normally.

ISO 50 often uses animals or nature to create amazing layouts
Take different routes, look at textures, colours, formation or anything that grabs your attention.
How about going to the library? Look in sections you wouldn’t normally.
Or relax in a movie, look at how they did things.

Do something out of your comfort zone or something you always thought would be interesting.

Tenfold Collective have a vast range of excellent design
Don’t just screen grab (apple shift 4 for all you slow pokes..) things that apply directly to your brief- expand your ideas by looking at anything you like.
Why not look up some designers and even email them asking where they draw inspiration?
Research and inspiration are key components to creating fresh looking and excellent design.

Don’t try to think of ideas all by yourself- you’ll give yourself a hernia.
After filling your head with ideas, get some blank paper and begin drawing, brain storming, scribbling doodling caboodling anything that pops into your head.

Elegant, stunning design is a just a few words to describe Purpura Design
Don’t hold back.

Really love those ideas. My desk has been too clean, it's time for me to hack it, glue it, color it, work on it! "Time to cure my cramped brain"
ReplyDeleteMy blog is about art, which is a field I thought I wounld never touch. After looking ur blog, I feel that may be a good idea to know something I have never imaged before. Take different routes, do sth I wouldn't normally.
Thanks for sharing
You're most welcome:)
ReplyDeleteEven if you are not that into art, it's always really good and also important to have time away from your computer!
And yes, doing things you have never done is ALWAYS a good idea when it comes to art etc.even if just to learn new techniques
Glad I've inspired you!
I know how mind block feels, so frustrating!
ReplyDeleteanyway... I love that texture on the (I think its a moose) picture, also im loving the warm colours that are mixed with the sepia, attracts your eye to all the colour and the light rays layer adds a nice touch. I love the typography in the 2nd image, each word creates a different feel and gives a good eyeflow.
Yeah Jessica Hische (the 2nd typography image) is so talented, she makes me green with envy.
ReplyDeleteShe does some cute little illustration aswell, you should check out her website, her work's pretty impressive www.jessicahische.com
I hear she's going to Semi Permanent also!
Yeah for that moose image the colours awesome aswell, it works well with the texture and especially the movement of the image.
Leah got me onto ISO 50.
Being stuck with work is so frustrating! Always happens when you need the most ideas haha, I've found the best thing to do is defenitely take a break–otherwise you keep working on your work and you ruin it and get even more frustrated!
You ought to check out this book Marie:
ReplyDeleteVaughan Oliver - Visceral Pleasures
He collaborated on the Pixies album covers with Simon Larbalestier. It's got some fabulous graphics in it!

ReplyDeleteDid you end up going to The Pixies the other month? (was is the pixies??)
