Picking the brains of the brilliant: Briggitte O'Grady

Interview Number 2:

BRIGGITTE O'GRADY
Talented photographer, make-up artist, a god-damn cool person.

Hi Briggitte, how are you today?

I’m rather grand thank you Miss. Holdaway.

Tell us a little bit about you and your photography.

I’m very clear and focused on what I like to capture and that is strong feminine imagery- i.e I have no interest in photographing children, animals, landscapes etc..

Your photography oozes attitude, style and shows beauty in so many different ways. Where do you get inspiration from to create such stunning photoshoots?

Well I’ve always been a huge fan of the silver screen from the Golden Years, Pin Up and the Rock Gods and Goddesses from between 1964-84.... and Books, and am inspired and in awe by so many of the groundbreaking film, literature, musical and sometimes poitical events from those times and strive to incorporate either of, or a combination of the four in my own work.

Have you always been interested in photograhy?

YES!! Always!:-)

What techniques do you use when post-processing your photographs?

I am a devoted follower of The Church of Photoshop.

Is there a certain creative process that you do to get the end result?

I’m definitely not a ‘technical’ photographer and have sacrificed this on many occassions to serve my ‘creative’ vision, which I cannot explain in words, so I prefer just to let my work, which is visual, do the talking.

If you were stuck on an island with 3 people (fact or fictional), who would you choose?

Marilyn Monroe- so I can do her make up, play with her hair,

take photos of her and she won’t make me feel fat!

Jim Morrison- Sex, Drugs and Rock N’ Roll!

Eric The Viking Vampire from True Blood- I want to be a

vampire.

What’s your view on photography today? Have you noticed any trends in photography at the moment?

Well we’re living in the digital age, so obviously that has changed things immensely and alot of times you will find that there is more than just the photographer involved in the finished image, such as re-touchers and graphic designers. Thats not my thing at all, (meaning I do my own re-touching) I like it to be me from start to finish. The Masters had more actual photographic skills in my opinion. However, having said that, I could go on forever with examples of work from just this year that I LOVE!

Your a Mother of a gorgeous little girl, a talented photographer AND make-up artist, Briggitte O’Grady, what CAN’T you do?

Lose 10 kilos.

If you could photograph one person, who would you and why?

Hmmmm, tough one!! I’m just going to say Cleopatra. Historical reasons and to see the beauty that enraptured Julius Caesar and Mark Antony- or pick the brain that enraptured these men!

If you could be one superhero, who would you be?

A female Blade! Was Blade a super hero? Or Catwoman:-)

Famous last words..
